After attending a 10-year-old’s Halloween costume birthday party, we drove down famous Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach, FL, to enjoy the stream of fantastic adult Halloween costumes. Both events were clear evidence that creativity abounds, in all ages, in all people, everywhere.
Halloween seems to free people to express their creativity. It appears to be a safe expression holiday where anything goes. I’ve known people that put a carved pumpkin on their head, worn a seashell swimsuit, painted their skin orange, glued a horn to their forehead and imitated a president. The levels of imagination run high this time of year which proves that creativity exists in people that claim not to have it.
THINK LIKE A CHILD
It may just be that this child celebrated event allows adults to feel childish and let their original thoughts run free. If people can do it for this holiday, perhaps returning to your childhood can spur other veins of creativity. Think to yourself, how would I do it as a child? It might allow the creative juices to flow. You may find that the magic often happens right outside our comfort zone.
OBSERVE A CHILD
In our family, we are fortunate and grateful to have a 19-month-old to play with, observe and love. There is so much awe that surrounds observing a child in their development and their infinite ways to problem solve. They know few boundaries, have little knowledge of what others believe can and cannot exist, and through repeated trial and error accomplish significant feats in physical, mental, and emotional development.
Children enter this world totally reliant on others for all their needs, observe others to learn how to do nearly everything and experience rapid growth and development. Children also seem to have unlimited creativity, energy and ideas. If you watch a small child attempt to determine how to remove a toy from a slightly restrictive area, you will see perseverance and ingenuity. Their efforts provide inspiration and motivation to keep trying and to try things differently. When you can’t figure something out or are looking for a new creative solution, watch a child, and the answer might come to you.
BE A CHILD OF GOD
The utmost level of creativity comes from God. If you’re looking to tap into creative powers, there is nothing higher to be found. You can pray for creative solutions. And, you can witness all the creativity in the world which may give you the inspiration for more creativity.
Pick anything in nature, study how and why it exists and look at the processes and systems and you will find abundant creativity. Similarly, look at a system in the body and you will be awed by the creativity and specificity in every area. Consider the body’s pH level. The pH of the human body ranges between 7.35 to 7.45, with the average at 7.40. That very small window of variance is impacted by many systems. One of them is the pulmonary system which adjusts the body’s ph using carbon dioxide.
Another amazing creative solution from God are placental stem cells. From the placenta after childbirth, the stem cells hold creative solutions to many health problems. They can be used to create more of whatever type of cell they are transferred to and they can provide healing and transformation.
Take the opportunity this Halloween offers and find your inner child to express your creativity, observe a child for new solutions and pray as a child of God for solutions that can only come from divine inspiration. You’ll find that creativity can be found through a child-like lens.
