Your career, like your life, needs nurturing and growth if you want to grow it into a super power. Some people stay at their job for 30 years and grow in responsibilities as the company grows and new positions become available. Some people move to a new company every 2 years to get promotions and grow.
Add Value
There are ways you can grow in your position no matter whether you choose to stay put or move around, the key is to add value.
How you choose to add value is personal and based on your style and situation.
Take an introspective look at yourself and see where you can improve in these areas which will help add value to your career. Improve on several or all of them by just 1%, and the cumulative effect will be huge.

People who add value to others do so intentionally. I say that because to add value, leaders must give of themselves and that rarely occurs by accident. - John C. Maxwell
My favorite way to add value involves goal setting and mindset and is best told by Og Mandino.
Multiply Your Value a Hundredfold
In The Greatest Salesman by Og Mandino, he tells the story about a salesman who shares his sales secrets with his selected successor via 10 scrolls. (We’re all in sales, so these words are worth reading and apply to everyone.)
Scroll 8 is “I will multiply my value a hundredfold.”
“Today I will multiply my value a hundredfold.
I will commit not the terrible crime of aiming too low.
I will do the work that a failure will not do.
I will always let my reach exceed my grasp.
I will never be content with my performance in the market.
I will raise my goals as soon as they are attained.
I will always strive to make the next hour better than this one.
I will announce my goals to the world.
Yet, never will I proclaim my accomplishments. Let the world, instead, approach me with praise and may I have the wisdom to receive it in humility.
“Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips.” — Proverbs 27:2 NIV
Today I will multiply my value a hundredfold.
One grain of wheat when multiplied a hundredfold will produce a hundred stalks.
Multiply these a hundredfold, ten times, and they will feed all the cities of the earth. Am I not more than a grain of wheat?
Today I will multiply my value a hundredfold.
And when it is done I will do it again, and again, and there will be astonishment and wonder at my greatness as the words of these scrolls are fulfilled in me.”

Imagine if we followed the advice of scroll 8 from The Greatest Salesman, how great would our career super powers be?
Take a Moment
Sometimes you are running so fast and trying to get so much done and have no bandwidth to step outside of yourself. But when you do, you see things differently.
So, take a moment. Slow down. Think. Pause. Reflect. Review these 17 ways to add value. Are you doing them? Could you be better? What is a problem at work that no one is solving? Find a way to solve it.
Where do you find your best answers? In the shower? At 30,000 feet? On a nature walk? Reading the Bible? Wherever it is for you (and maybe it is in multiple places), put yourself there and take a moment to see how you can improve your super powers.
Make a commitment to make a change right away. Don’t wait until you think you’re ready.

Then review the list again. Make another change and another and another.
Is it scary and uncertain? You bet it is. That’s why life is exciting and thrilling.
Go make it so and build your super powers.
